Man ohh man!!! the shift from them taking their rest then the howls that awakened Lorne, effectively instilled dread in me. And the storyline from there towards where they decided to loosen up the rope from the barn door. I just kept whispering Nnooo, doontt, as if they could hear me 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️and then i was like Shhh horses for making those damn noise! And I get it they were scared but i was scared too... Only to realize it wouldn't make a difference. Safe to say I enjoyed this, very powerful and effective at scaring me.
Ahh thank you, thank you! Glad you were able to feel the dread! It’s definitely worn off on me by how much I’ve gone over this story so I’m glad to hear it still instills that fear. I hope you liked the creature too!
TBH, i find the monster effective in eliciting fear, I definitely felt that though I could not fully conjure an image of what it looks like. So I can’t say I like the creature/monster but I can say that I like it’s ambiguity in my mind… it only added to the terror I felt. But I got hint hat it’s big probably a mythical being, like that one in The Ritual.
Great story and amazing atmosphere. The brief, clipped sentences really emphasize the harsh environment these guys are experiencing. I had to grab a blanket! And I loved the twist with the wolves and the real threat. A definite "holy f*ck!" moment. Keep up the great work!
Yes! Haha, this story was selected for a shout-out in this week's podcast, and I'm so glad it was because this was awesome! I love how you manage to establish such a rich atmosphere in your stories, it really makes them feel immersive.
I was secretly hoping that something more terrifying than wolves was chasing them, and it turns out I was right! Really enjoyed this one.
Been wanting to get into this one since I first saw it posted. 👏
Yoooo you enjoyed it? Thank you for reading regardless
An understatement. Loved it, I wish I were as comfortable to write a western. Solid.
Wow big words man, thank you so much. 🙏🙌
