Paragraph on Paragraphs:
From Aurelian Ashmore
The city was buried under heavy rain.
Drowning stones hosted cold beggars.
One made a fire beneath the bridge, a kettle boiled water.
Some beggars had old vegetables and threw them in.
A man with a scar took a worn book from his dirty bag.
Read a paragraph.
They froze.
He read more until the soup was ready.
The cook brought the kettle and almost fell over it.
His wound ruptured. Pus and blood fell hard into the food.
They beat him for that.
The reader put the book away and got the cook back on his feet.
“Yet another paragraph.”
He filled his bowl and began to eat.
The Sage of Substack
